Broadcast Journalist (Online)

BBC Tees was the BBC’s ‘Where I Live’ website for Teesside, launched in 2001, based in the newsroom of BBC Radio Cleveland in Middlesbrough.

The site was aimed at a young audience and provided a mix of news, sport, weather, features and entertainment, involving local people in multimedia content production through outreach and engagement activity.

I was responsible for the initial fit-out of the BBC Tees website – working with customised templates in Macromedia Dreamweaver - developing launch content and then sustaining the service. I engaged with colleagues across radio and television to make best use of existing multimedia – achieving particular success with repackaged sports reports, interviews and pictures - and forged links with organisations and individuals to develop streams of multimedia content.

Over time I also took on responsibility for the BBC Radio Cleveland website and station pages on the Ceefax (Teletext) service, developed pages for the BBC Blast outreach programme, and trialled and advised other local teams on the adoption of content management solutions.

Broadcast Journalist / Trails and promotions voicer

Based in the station’s newsroom, working primarily on the BBC Tees website, I soon became a regular contributor to radio station output – teasing web content on the Drive programme, reviewing television and music on the breakfast show, explaining technology and web issues in the mid-morning programme, filing reports for news bulletins. I soon became a regular voice on the station’s programme trails and voiced hour openers teasing the website offer and URL.
