Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the UK (HERO) Ltd

Description

  • Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the UK (HERO) Ltd

  • 2003-2009

Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the United Kingdom (HERO) Ltd acted as a digital development agency for government agencies and sector bodies with interests in the further and higher education sectors and ran from 2000 to 2010.

The company was initially formed to deliver UK HE Mall - ‘a prestigious web site, which will become recognised as the primary Internet portal, promoting the diversity, quality and opportunities of UK higher education to a wide range of users’ - with the Higher Education Funding Council for England acting as lead stakeholder. HE Mall became HERO.ac.uk upon launch in 2000.

The company quickly expanded its role, delivering a wide range of websites and web services, notably the Aimhigher.ac.uk and Teaching Quality Information sites (which lives on as Unistats). The company also offered support on content generation, marketing and communications to a range of organisations – delivering extra capacity and expertise across a range of projects. Over time the company delivered hundreds of web sites and services.

I had ultimate responsibility for content on the HERO and Aimhigher sites and quickly took the lead on content generation for the company’s growing online portfolio. I established editorial process and procedure and developed the in-house and external editorial teams (including contacts at all UK universities).

As the company expanded, I was soon acting as account director on many projects, delivering marketing/communications activities and bringing new development streams into the company, establishing partnerships with a range of sector bodies.
